UCSC’s DANSER lab collaborating with USGS and NASA Ames is designing a Common Payload Data System for the next version of the SIERRA UAV.

Our proposed solution is a tensegrity model of the human arm, including the basic controls to test the motion of the arm and its vulnerabilities through simulation. Given the initial conditions and the coordinates of all the joints and bone ends, we were able to test and optimize the design of the arm.

The objective of this project was to build a collaborative roving and distributive sensing to magnetically map the field under the rovers. The rovers use Raspberry Pis for their path-finding algorithm , the D* lite (which is the same algorithm used for UCSC Autonomous Rover). The coordinates and magnetic data are then logged in an SD card so they can be post processed.

A handheld battery-operated wireless voltage-clamp amplifier capable of connecting to either a computer or a smart phone through wi-fi  for detecting water and blood contamination (e.g. proteins, antibodies, DNA).

The first robotics project I worked on was for the mechatronics class at UCSC, in which we had to build a robot to navigate a small field, and shoot ping pong balls at other robots. What made my team’s robot unique compared to other teams was its ability to shoot and navigate at the same time

Existing researches on wireless localization are mostly focused on 2.4GHz modules which usually experience
dramatic signal interference from other 2.4GHz WiFi devices. In this project, we’ve implemented a 434MHz RF localization system using a network of at least 3 stationary wireless nodes for precise localization of mobile nodes in the network. In our implementation we have revisited and utilized networking concepts such as collision avoidance and error detection.

During the summer of 2012, I worked in Bionics lab at UCSC, where I programmed two 3D games for a wearable exoskeleton arm. The games were designed to help rehabilitate the stroke patients who had less control on one side of their bodies. The symmetric nature of the games could help patients train the weaker side of their body to learn from the motions of their healthy side.

During my last quarter as an undergrad, while working on my senior design project, I also worked on building a turtle robot for the bio-inspired locomotion class at UCSC. The challenge was to design a very mechanically simple (only one servo) robot which its movement was inspired from nature.

The UCSC Autonomous Rover is an autonomous rover that competed in the NASA Centennial Challenges-Sample Return Robot 2013. It uses computer vision to recognize a pre-cached object and uses a path finding algorithm to navigate to the object location. To simulate extra-terrestrial limitations, the robots were banned from using magnetometers(Compasses), GPS, and GSM.
