Description:

• Once you know how to create a mallet, you will find that creating more complex objects follows a similar strategy outlined below. The goal of this homework is to get you guys thinking about what kind of objects you might want to create aside from the mallet.
• An object that is created out of cylinders, such as the mallet, could be represented as follows:

  mallet:
     cylinder 1 instance
        transformations to make this be the handle
        color of the handle
     cylinder 2 instance
        transformations to make this be the head
        color of the head
  

  Note that color is pushed down below the cylinder level so that each cylinder can have its own color. If you want the entire object (mallet in this case) be the same color, then color can be set up at same level as cylinder.
  Also note that this structure can be hierarchical. For example, once you've created the mallet object above, you can use that as a building block and create other object(s) or scene using instances of mallet objects.
• Our primary building block object is the cylinder that you've created in prog1. You can also use other building block objects, e.g. cube, that's available in the book. First part of this homework is for you to hand sketch some object(s) that is made up of two or more building block objects. Try to draw the coordinate frame as well. Since we won't talk about camera transformations until later in the quarter, and the default camera view is set up to look down the z-axis which makes the x-axis go to the right, and y-axis go up (in a right-handed coordinate system), you may want to construct/place your object(s) as if the "ground" corresponds to the xz-plane, and y-axis is pointing up to the "sky".
• Create an outline of how your object will be represented using the building blocks similar to how the mallet object is represented above. You can leave this pretty high level like the mallet example above, or you can start trying to fill in more details e.g. what transformations are needed, details about the transformations, colors, etc.
• Take pictures of both your sketch and outline. Upload them to hwk1 on gradescope.
