San Lorenzo River 50k June 21, 2014

I ran this with Kristin after 7 weeks of 50 mile training. We were supposed to do a 24 mile run with a 10 mile the next day but replaced it with 31+5. We went slow at start the not by choice. We hit single track right at the start and there were no waves. I got a bit annoyed at this, but kept pushing forward. It was hard to see how far back on the uphill Kristin was so I had to stop on the side and wait a few times. Other people would just stop in the middle which was annoying.

The 4 river crossings were quite refreshing! I was very surprised that my wet feet were not a problem at all. Each time my feet would dry out, we would go in again. My shoes trained pretty well, but I will consider drilling some small drain holes in them to help more next time. We paced the race very well.

I had a predictable low point climbing after about mile 18. I kept eating PBJ. At mile 18, I had some watermelon and a Gu which was great. I took 2 salt pills at about hours 2 and 4. I have absolutely no complaints about this race and felt strong until the end. The next day I was tired but not very sore. Kristin and I completed a recovery 5 miler with no problem.
