Layton Gilles has made it clear that, because it was his decision for the ship to be commandeered, he will serve as its captain. Layton Gilles was designated captain of the Preparative, which will depart Paxton shortly; he has never captained a ship before. Murphy Noland, Heda Gilles, Nollie Gilles, Win Gilles, and Capt. Layton Gilles have boarded the Preparative from the port of Paxton, Pelican. The Preparative, under command of Capt. Layton Gilles, has left the harbor at Paxton, Pelican. 405.   The Preparative is heading S at full-speed. Capt. Layton Gilles, captain of the Preparative since 403, died at sea aboard the Preparative after a freak accident; he was 32 years old. Win Gilles was designated new captain of the Preparative; he has never captained a ship before.
