The group about to board the Pederasty has decided that, rather than Harald Vaclav naming himself captain outright, the passengers will decide who their captain will be democratically. Rubin Guillermo's shipmates have decided that he would make the best captain, though Merril Gilles is hurt by the decision. Rubin Guillermo was designated captain of the Pederasty, which will depart Waugh shortly; he has never captained a ship before. The Pederasty, under command of Capt. Rubin Guillermo, has left the harbor at Waugh, Hornbeak. The Pederasty is heading S at half-speed. Rosmunda Vaclav took her own life aboard the Pederasty; she was 46 years old. As an act of mutiny, Merril Gilles is going to attempt to murder Capt. Rubin Guillermo, whose decision-making aboard the Pederasty has been seen by some passengers as reckless and potentially life-endangering. Merril Gilles murdered his 21-year-old nephew Capt.
