My name is Gepoliano Chaves and I come from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I have a BS in Biochemistry and a MS in Biology. I am a first year grantee from Science without Borders under the sponsorship of CAPES Foudation, the Ministry of Education from Brazil. The Science without Borders program in Brazil aims to promote science in the country, as well as attract scientists of excellence in the next years. Here is a link to CAPES website. Here is also a link to Science without Borders website. Click here if you wanto to go to the bottom of this page.
In my BS I had a research experience with Enzimology and Reactive Oxygen Species. I also had an experience with Integrated Pest Managemet, working with eggplant, cabbage, tomato and soy pests at the Federal University of Višosa, Brazil. In my MS, I investigated a receptor supposed to have a droggable potential in the parasite Plasmodium falciparum which is the parasite responsible for the most severe form of malaria in humans. Here is a link for my Master's Thesis, in Portuguese: MS thesis.
Currently I am a PhD student at the Jack Basking School of Engineering in the University of California - Santa Cruz. I am so excited to use such a divine device like the nanopipette and why I believe it is divine is that we can perform single cell biopsy and couple this to reverse transcription, for RNA, and direct sequencing for DNA, to high-throughput sequencing of different organisms and cell types. I am under the guidance of professor Nader Pourmand. Here is a link to his research website. Finally, this is a link to my Lattes CV, a curriculum database shared by all scientists from Brazil: Gepoliano's Lattes CV.
This is a photo of me as a scientist, making an image of a blood cell:
These are two other photos of me playing in the theather. In one of them, we are showing five prizes we won in a local festival. One of the prizes was as the second overall best comedy which I wrote:
When I do not have to concentrate for several hours working in the lab, I do other things for fun. Bellow I list somethings I do regularly and after, I give a table with a kind of statistical data I like to read.
Bellow I tabled some Brazilian soccer teams that I like and some championshps they won

I decided to make a website about nanopipettes and display the research I perform using this device accordingly. In the following link I show some data I have collected using a nanopipette: My Nanopipette Website. Go back to the top of this page.
