A schema mapping is a specification that describes how data structured
under one schema (the source schema) is to be transformed into data
structured under a different schema (the target schema).
Given a schema mapping, the problem of data exchange is to
convert
an instance
of the source schema into an instance of the target
schema so that the schema mapping is satisfied.
Schema mappings are fundamental artifacts in
information integration. We
have investigated several research issues regarding the
management of schema mappings and data exchange.
