Ted Goldstein Biography

Summary

Currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC). I have been very privileged to work with some fabulous people at Apple, Sun Microsystems, Xerox PARC/ParcPlace Systems and other many fabulous start-up companies and I made major contributions to the development of software tools and operating systems As Vice President of Development Technologies at Apple, I led the effort to create Xcode, the preeminent developer tool for Mac OS X and iPhone. While at Sun Microsystems, Inc., I created Java Card, the Smart Card in GSM phones and US military and government identification cards. I have been awarded nine patents in information technologies.

After many commercial successes as a Vice President of Engineering in the computer industry, I have decided I need a new level of challenge. I have decided to return to my first love, biology and bioinformatics. As a computer scientist, I have been impressed by the ability of bioinformatics to contribute to the advancement of health science. Empowered by databases of proteomic and genomic information and elegant mathematical tools, science is reconstructing the encyclopedia of life. My goal is to be a leader in the scientific community that is developing new insights into the complexity of intercellular communications to both create knowledge and advance human health.
