What I looked like when I was a PhD student at UCSC!

Say hello to my little frog!

and to the cyber slug!!

and to Thomas!!

Welcome to my UCSC web page!

I am a recent graduate in the Statistics group at the Applied Math and Statistics Department, UCSC. I was awarded my Ph.D. in Statistics and Stochastic Modeling in December 2011. My dissertation was supervised by Dr. Athanasios Kottas. I recently started a post-doctral fellowship at the MRC Biostatistics unit, University of Cambridge.

My dissertation work was on Bayesian nonparametric modeling for sensitivity analysis, emulation, and calibration of computer simulators, with particular emphasis on stochastic simulators. The motivation behind the methodological work was solving applied research problems in the areas of remote sensing, aerospace engineering, and earth sciences.

Some of my PhD work:
  • Bayesian Inference for Sensitivity Analysis of Computer Simulators, with an Application to Radiative Transfer Models. Technical Report: UCSC-SOE-10-15.
  • An Application of Semiparametric Bayesian Isotonic Regression to the Study of Radiation Effects in Spaceborne Microelectronics. Technical Report: UCSC-SOE-10-13.

Other adventures at UC Santa Cruz :)

To keep my sanity..

My hobbies include playing soccer, scuba-diving, skiing, fire-spinning (fire poi), singing (in Arabic), playing the Derbekkeh, and taking care of my pet frogs :)

If I am perfect, then I have no cracks--how will I be happy if the sun can't get in?
This quote is from A Thousand Paths to Happiness by David Baird.. I don't know much about the author or the book, but I like the quote.
