Say hello to my little frog!

and to the cyber slug!!

Marian Farah

Welcome to my webpage!

I am a 3rd year PhD student in the Statistics group at the
Applied Math and Statistics Department, working under the supervision of Dr. Athanasios Kottas. I am interested in Bayesian nonparametric modeling and analysis of computer model experiments, with applications in remote sensing and earth sciences.

Things I'm working on..
  • Calibration & validation (including Bayesian sensitivity analysis) of Leaf-Canopy Model (LCM), a Radiative Transfer Model, which simulates light reflected by a vegetated region of the Earth as detected by a satellite sensor. The long-term goal is to invert the LCM in order to obtain the distribution of Leaf Area Index, a key input to global climate models, over large geographic regions, given measured reflectances from the satellite data.
    • My poster at Baskin School of Engineering's Open House, March 12, 2009 about the sensitivity analysis of the LCM.
  • The prediction of on-orbit single event upset rate:  We have developed a Bayesian nonparametric model for uncertainty in the estimated cross-section vs. LET curve. Our data comes from a set of heavy-ion tests conducted on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) used in aerospace applications.

If I am perfect, then I have no cracks--how will I be happy if the sun can't get in?
This quote is from A Thousand Paths to Happiness by David Baird.. I don't know much about the author or the book, but I like the quote.
