SCATE
Santa Cruz Agent Technology & Environments
Research
Beginning in Winter 2003, we have launched expanded UCSC research activities
into agent technology, tools, applications and environments, building on
the CoolAgent and BlueJade work we started at HP Laboratories.
The two primary areas we are working on include:
- Applications of multi-agent systems to personal assistants
for traffic management and software development
- Agent-oriented software engineering technology

SCATE Overview: A New Beginning in 2003
Martin Griss, Steve Fonseca, Charlie McDowell and others are in the process of writing
grant proposals to various sources, installing agent technology and services,
and exploring potential collaborations with students and colleagues at UCSC,
SJSU and U of Utah.
We run a SCATE research seminar, and are planning several agent events
with partners.
Research Goals and Interests
Goal: Making it easier to build and apply agent-technology to
build complex, adaptive software systems.
- Agent-Oriented Software Engineering - models, state machines,
patterns, frameworks, generators, components, kits to improve agent-based
system construction.
- Agent toolkits and standards - JADE, FIPA, JAS
- Personal and Team Assistants - using context-aware agents, machine
learning, information retrieval and rule-based
- Intelligent Web Services - combining web-services, agents and
machine learning
- Applications and Environments - meeting arrangement and monitoring,
email management, mobile users & context-aware environments, e-commerce,
software development environments, Agentcities testbed
