Genie Limitations
There are limitations to the Genie gene prediction tool that users
should be aware of before using or reporting results.
- At least one gene is always predicted regardless of
the DNA content unless there is no possible gene.
- All letters besides 'A','C','T', and 'G' are treated as
unknown foreign letters.
- Users may submit masked DNA where 'X' indicates a repeat region.
- False positives may be predicted in long regions of intergenic DNA.
- Reverse strand prediction is performed independently
of the forward strand. A future version will include an
integrated prediction of both strands to avoid contradictory,
shadow gene predictions.
- Partial genes are not predicted.
- We recommend using Genie on smaller pieces of targetted DNA
(on the order of 10kb) to maximize predictive ability.
- Due to resource expense, the inclusion of database homology
information is not included in the web version. Furthermore,
submission lengths are limited to no more than 100kb. In addition
to per-submission restrictions, usage will be monitored on a
per-site basis and may be restricted at our discretion.
