I am Chris Phelps and I am currently an Applied Math and Statistics graduate student at the University of Santa Cruz, California. I am interested in the field of computational optimal control. I am originally from Sacramento and did my undergraduate studies at the University of Santa Barbara, California, where I double-majored in Mathematics and Physics.
Research Interests:
- Nonlinear control theory, optimal control theory, computational optimal control, numerical optimization, stochastic optimization, operations research
- Worked on a US Navy-funded project to determine optimal strategies for search and detection
- Developed a computational framework to numerically solve dynamic optimization problems with uncertainty
- Designed an algorithm for the solution of dynamic optimization problems based on Monte Carlo integration
- Used numerical analysis to demonstrate correctness and convergence properties of said algorithm
- Used variational analysis to derive necessary conditions for dynamic optimization problems with uncertainty
